I'm 5'11, little overweight. In other words about average for most of us these days.
These guards are a nice product. But ordered XL, the largest size available. Put them on (tried) yesterday. There's 3 straps. Top one is OK, a little short, but usable. Then drop down to the next two straps. Not even close. They don't begin to make contact. These are not cheap and I want to return them, but actually I need them and that was the point in buying them. Before returning, I'm going to try going to the craft store and getting some velcro to make extensions. That will make a very poor addition to a nice product. If you have skinny calves, you won't have any problem.
