(More customer reviews)I have a metric cruiser--a Suzuki Boulevard C50--which is primarily for cruising around town. It's got the guts to go on the highway and hang with the Big Dogs, but that's not what it's set up to do.My first problem was my aching but, which I fixed with a Saddlemen saddle. My second problem was my aching right hand, for which I bought the Vista Cruise.
The product was cheap, and got fairly good reviews on the internet. While the final installed product does what it says it will do, I'm not particularly impressed.
The first major problem with this thing is trying to install it with the crappy excuse for directions they printed on the back of the box. There are no illustrations. The parts aren't labeled so you can figure out which part in the instructions corresponds to which piece in the box.I had to query a third party site on the internet to figure out how the thing goes together
The second problem was that I had to physically trim down a strip of rubber in order to make it fit on my particular handlebars.Like, they couldn't give you several different sizes to choose from?Like, it was going to add another $0.14 to the cost of the product to include another diameter of rubber. It shouldn't be that difficult for a silly little product for which I paid $30 bucks.
The third, and biggest problem, is aesthetics.Theres a clamp that fits on the handlebars (you have to move the brake fluid reservoir to make it fit). Then, there's another clamp that fits around the throttle grip. Finally there's this plastic bridge that extends from one clamp to the other. The problem is that this bridge is going to get in the way of something.Do you want it to cover up the starter button, the engine cutoff switch, or the hazard-signal switch.Bottom line, its going to get in the way of something. You can try to sandwich this bracket between two of those switchs, but no matter what you do, it's going to get in the way of something. Finally, I determined to mound it so the thumb engagement switch (the the knob you press to engage the cruise) was sitting at about 12 o'clock on the throttle. It's not really that big of a deal, but to engage the cruise, I use my pointer finger, and to disengage it, I press the knob back with my thumb. It's still cludgy, though.
I'm the kind of cyclist who polishes each individual stud on my saddle with chrome polish to keep the bike looking showroom fresh.I spray ArmourAll on the saddle back so it will shine in the sun.I individually polish every spoke on the wheels so there's no grease or brake dust.Got it?I care about how my bike looks.I was disappointed that this Vista Cruise makes my handlebar set up look like Dick Van Dyke's invention laboratory.
I wish I would have spent more money and gotten the Throttlemeister, like my friend has.You can't even tell its mounted, and his works great.
When I get more money, I'm going to deep-six this stupid thing and buy what I should have bought in the first place.
