(More customer reviews)When I bought my first streetbike in 2002, I didn't have any technological helmet options.I opted for an Arai for its good looks and was happy with it.To fill my need for music on long rides, I bought a pair of headphones that had an inline volume cable and wired them into the helmet.I worked, but it wasn't pretty with the cord hanging out, and it wasn't loud at 70 MPH on the freeway.
So when I was perusing my helmet options recently and stumbled upon the Oneal Element Fastrack...needless to say, I was sold IMMEDIATELY.I had my doubts given about the brand, but a plethora of reviews on Motorcycle Superstore's website put me a bit more at ease about the quality of the helmet.
Here's a breakdown of my experience with the helmet:
FIT:The fit is good. I was a medium when I wore an Arai, and I'm a medium in this helmet. The shape of my head leaves a tiny bit of looseness near the lower back of the helmet, but to no fault of the manufacturer. The sizing chart provided seemed to be very accurate.
I did find that this helmet's visor tended to fog up a bit at first, but once moving, I had no issues with that. The front vent seems to help with fogging as well.
APPEARANCE:I LOVE how this helmet looks (I got the matte black color). The shape is aggressive, there aren't too many gaudy [and permanent] stickers, and the matte finish just plain looks awesome. I did remove all of the cheesy Bluetooth stickers that are probably there due to Bluetooth licensing, but they came off without any residue (but be patient). SIDE NOTE: I also purchased the DARK Smoked Shield for and it matches the color of the helmet really well.
PHONE FUNCTIONALITY:As for the Bluetooth functionality, I'm thoroughly impressed.I charged the unit up for about an hour before starting to play with it.I put the helmet into pairing mode and had it paired with my iPhone 3Gs in 3 tries (the first 2 attempts seemed to time out, but it could have been operator-error).Once paired with my iPhone, I was able to call my girlfriend in the next room and chat with her easily. She said I sounded clear and her voice was crisp for me.I have yet to use the PHONE features while riding, and due to safety, I may never use that feature. If I don't know what every driver around me is doing, I'm not comfortable.
MUSIC FUNCTIONALITY:Music was ultimately the reason I bought this helmet. My morning commute is anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes, and rather than just listen to the deafening white noise of the wind on the helmet, I like to hear music. The helmet (already paired to my iPhone) played from my music beautifully.I was most impressed with the volume that could be attained with the internal headphones (it gets LOUD...makes you think about how much white noise there really is in a helmet thats moving fast).I plan to start streaming my favorite local FM station (FM949 in San Diego has their own iPhone app), and listening on my drive to work.Or heck, I could be listening to Pandora or any other music option too.
CONTROLS:The controls were definitely built with a rider in mind, given that you can easily use them with gloves on.I have had no trouble using any of the functionality while riding on the bike. One thing I wish you could do with these controls is skip forward/backward in your iPod playlist. This would be a really great feature for people like me that have musical A.D.D.
OVERALL:I couldn't be happier with this helmet. Its got all the bells and whistles a guy could want, it looks really good, and its priced VERY competitively.I plan to buy another of these helmets for my girlfriend (so we can chat while she's on the back), and I would absolutely recommend this helmet to my people.
P.S.My purchase from Motorcycle Superstore was FLAWLESS. Their $5.99 2-day shipping option is extremely reasonable, as is their free ground shipping!I will absolutely buy from them again.
