(More customer reviews)I bought these bags a couple of years ago for my 2002 Ducati Monster 620 dark knowing that I would need some room for cargo on my road trip from West Palm Beach, FL to SF, CA. I share my thoughts based on my experience with them going cross-country.
First, they are not waterproof (!)--even with the covers. Incidentally, the covers are not well designed for highway speed. I lost them both within the first 900 miles of my trip. That said, it turned out that so-called "space bags" worked much better to squish clothes into the bags and are waterproof as well. Highly recommended!
Second, I quickly discovered that the bags functioned well to support the long (roll-style) dry bag I strapped perpendicular the rear seat. This bag housed my tent and sleeping bag quite well. An example of one is here: [...]. Everything stayed very secure after some 300 miles of initial fine-tuning.
Third, take care to weight the bags as evenly as possible. My rear tire burned a 2 inch by 2 inch hole in one bag after slipping. It was my own fault--I had tossed several quarts of oil into a single bag. Since the hole wasn't large enough for a fully stuffed "space bag" to pass through, I decided to leave it alone. It was fine--and the tear did not get bigger.
Four stars for waterproofing glitches. Otherwise, 5 stars.
Would I buy them again?
Yep, definitely. These bags really took a pounding.
Happy riding.
