21 JAN 2008, I ordered one each of the "Big Horn" and "Little Big Horn" by phone based on their "scratch and ding" sale, which they listed as, "brand new components."Red flag warning:Howard's Horns only took money orders--no credit cards, and no personal checks. Once they have your money, they've got it. The supplied compressors arrived not in new packaging, were apparently used, and one was dented.Howard's Horns "tech service" failed to respond in any helpful manner. Their web site quoted an article which stated that, "The compressor is rated at 6 amps, similar to the stock horn." Testing showed that the HH compressors drew 2-3 times that (#1: 12.5-16.3A; #2: 15.1-18.3A).The HH compressors and horns were bench tested against my older Rivco air horn set. The HH output was 2-12dB less, and one of the HH compressors was unable to sound the "Little Big Horn" at all!I bought a new replacement compressor (with similar nominal specifications to the returned HH compressors) from Wolo (great compressor, and GREAT folks!) and decided to go ahead and install the HH "Big Horn", since I was stuck with it anyway--the HH horn quit working entirely after only six beeps!! I replaced it with the Rivco air horns that I had installed over two years previously:the Rivco horns worked great with the new compressor, and still do.
I called Howard's Horns, and then the compressors were returned. HH did not return new or replacement compressors, and they did not refund the money for them. In a subsequent call, their representative stated that I needed to also return the horns themselves, and then they would refund the money.The horns were returned:Howard's Horns refused the shipment, never refunded any money, and has subsequently refused to answer any calls made during business hours to their published business phone.The Georgia Better Business Bureau rates this company as "unsatisfactory".
Internet business is still based primarily on trust--if someone violates your trust, they do not deserve your--or anyone's--business. There are too many other good horns--and good people.
