(More customer reviews)The Spidi vest provides decent protection to the neck if worn properly. The technology comes from a little-known-in-America company called "Hit-Air", a genuinely innovative Japanese company. Hit-Air supplies this patented technology to the big giants of equistry and motorcycling . If you want protection from motorcycle or horse back riding injuries, Hit-Air has just released a light and rather simple looking vest that goes over your "usual" garment. It is far from "simple", however. Its truly a marvel. The Hit-Air vest has built-in tubing that covers neck AND other areas like back, hips, tail bone, ribs, elbows, torso, chest-all this for about $379. There are plenty of videos about Hit-Air on the YouTube. I bought their vest from the distributor "Bikebone dot com" who has appeared on NBC and is fully equipped with supplies at very modest prices if needed. People in the know shake their heads when they see the price tag on this Spidi vest. It is overpriced. I highly recommend the Hit-Air's MLV vest just released in 2010. Many a policeman riding horse or bike across the world wears Hit-Air jackets. Lastly, its kinda annoying to see that Spidi chose to strip the vest down to neck at a back breaking price. Some others, e.g. RS Tai Chi are trying to do the same and charge a fortune. Hit-Air is the King who provides top notch air bag technology at a reasonable price whereas most other companies are mediocre copy cats wanting to seam only neck bags to their "names and garments" and sell you one fifth the protection from a collision at two times the price. Hit-Air deserves the Nobel prize for making available the technology that will prevent thousands of kids from dying from injuries. Most professional horse riders now regularly wear Hit-Air vests. Although motorcycle accidents are not the same, the "Vest" still protects the same organs still. Like every cop must wear a bullet proof vest, every rider must wear the Hit-Air Vest.
Spidi Vest
Pros: It will likely save your neck when worn properly, it is rechargeable for repeated use except when the bag is damaged, obviously. Italian name, Japanese technology.
Cons: No protection below the neck, none; extra CO2 cartridge difficult to find and not cheap; High price tag for a lot less, most likely from paying royalties. Hardly any product support. Manual not easy to read.
Hit-Air Vest 2010 NEW (MLV)
Pros: Air bag system protects neck, torso, back, tail bone, hips, chest; The system deploys the airbag in 0.25 sec! By comparison the human eye blink rate is 300 to 400 msec or 0.3 seconds. Designed to wear over your garment, suit etc. Price: $379 lowest seen. Extra 60 cc CO2 cartridge $16; system reusable unless bags damaged. Great product support; individual components at very reasonable prices if needed; Excellent instructions how to reuse etc.
Cons: Chest and back protection optional
