(More customer reviews)I purchased this product about a year ago for my cruiser (Kawasaki Vulcan) and since it went belly up last week, I figured I would provide a review for others out there looking for an alarm system.The product is easy to install and can be completed in about 30 minutes.It provides all the protection you are looking for in an alarm minus the ignition cut-off option which can be purchased and added on to the system.
Proximity Sensor:I was warned by the dealership that the proximity sensor was not accurate because the alarm is not built for cruisers and sure enough, it wasn't for the whole time I had the system on my bike.The value and accuracy depends on where you install the proximity sensor option (yes, separate from the main housing unit).Since I had the proximity sensor placed on the ignition side of the bike, it would chirp when you came roughly 2 feet directly away from that direction.If you came from any other direction, you could get a lot closer, as a matter of fact, coming in from the opposite side, you had to pretty much be sitting on the bike before it would alert.Even though I played with the settings, this was the best I could get from the system; and quite honestly, you don't need more than that anyway.Having a motorcycle comes with the fact that people will be interested and was to get up close looks at your machinery anyway.
Tilt/Shock Sensor:Again, I don't think this product was meant for cruisers as the tilt/shock sensors did not perform as advertised.The only time I could get the tilt sensor to work was if I got on the bike and tilted it well past the straight up and down angle to about the 100-115 degree mark.As for the shock sensor, I had to pretty much jump up and down on the bike for it to alert.Both issues weren't a major concern since I was counting on the perimeter sensor anyway.
As for quality... well, I had my unit for a little over a year and recently found that it no longer works.When I opened up my bike to troubleshoot, I noticed that the circular area of the main housing unit had come off exposing the inside of the unit.There has not been any trauma to the bike or the unit for it to come apart, but it has...
Pager System:The pager is nicely built and attractive.It works well although not to the distance as advertised.In optimum conditions, the maximum range I could get was approximately 35 feet.One problem I have with the pager is that it is a built-in rechargeable system.Why do I have a problem with that?Well, as you may or may not be aware of, rechargeable batteries tend to have problems where it does not hold a charge after a period of time or the charge does not last as long as it first did.Additionally, if you lose the wall charger or damage it, you will have to get it replaced.I prefer to have the ability to swap out an AA battery which can last months in the event I accidentally forget to charge the remote after I alarm the bike.Better yet, if you can build a remote that will allow you to charge an AA this way you can have the best of both worlds built into one system!
Well, that is my [lengthy] review of the product.I have contacted the company about the housing unit and am waiting for a response but I don't expect them to replace the unit since it is a little over a year old and their warranty is only good for one year.I will keep you posted if there is a positive outcome in this current situation.
